Build and Release are a five-piece, Aussie post rock outfit comprised of drums, basses and guitars. Initially formed as a songwriting project,  this is their first (self produced) album.

Similar to Samuel Jackson 5 and Sleepmakeswaves, the album is a varied mix of both ambient and more energetic tracks, all of which combine seamlessly to produce a sense of euphoria.

This is music for travelling to. Evoking (for me) the pace of a busy city, rushing through towns to emerge at a higher vantage point where you may pause and catch your breath.

With 7 tracks each named for volcanoes, the Build & Release concept is thoroughly explored. This album continually shifts from ambient drifting to solid, melodic phrases, combining more traditional rock elements alongside typical post rock which compliment it well and give them a sound of their own. Currently touring festivals in their homeland (Australia), I can see these guys making it across the water before too long.

About The Author

Kate is an indie-aficionado with riot-grrl roots who took a brief, teenage detour through the murky swamps of Trad Goth. Nowadays she is equally likely to be found swaying to Nick Cave and pogoing to punk. If it's loud, with strong lyrics and a bass line you can feel in your teeth, then it's gotta be good!
