Upbeat pop-punk band SpaceJam write genuine jams that move the feet.

How would you describe your music?

We spread a powerful and melodic rock with poetic and dreamlike lyrics. We have come to rock your socks off and blow your mind away. Come on and take a one-way trip to escape and change of planet. Welcome to our world!

Tell us about how the history of the project?

Spacejam formed in 2017. We are:

Sebastian Parris (me) Guitarist/songwriter, raised near Dartford -Kent-(UK) close friend of R.Smith of The Cure in mid-80s. Has toured the UK and Europe for 30 years in bands like The Inflicts, Bikini, Karmasonic.

Drummer KC Elstun native from Cincinnati (USA) who moved to France 10 years ago. He has toured the US for 30 years and played with stars like BB King, Bo Didley, Lonnie Mack.

Bass player Ali Lassab who played and toured France and Europe for more than 20 years, with Manu Chao, Glasgow, Requiem of Sylvia.

What are your influences/ musical heroes?

So many musical influences…The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, all the UK and US Punk bands (Sex Pistols, Damned, Clash, Ruts, UK Subs, Ramones, Television, DK, Dead Boys, Bad Brains…) Siouxsie & Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam.

They all are influential because they are a part of the musician I am today. It’s not something I am conscious of when I am writing songs, but it’s in my brain in my soul, I can feel all these great musicians in me.

What inspires you?

I don’t remember what really inspires me, maybe it’s all about life and death, love and hate and human feelings and stupid things like that I guess. You’ll have to find out I’m afraid!

Do you write on the road? Or do you prefer to write in the studio?

I write depending on when the inspiration comes to me. It can be on the road when travelling or in the hotel room, or more quietly at home.

The most important is the moment when I take my guitar or the instrument on hand at this moment and I will take off to “Sebzland” far from this world into the unknown.

Will the magic operate I can’t tell!

It can also depend on the amount of sex, alcohol and drugs that I am going or not going to take! You must promise not to repeat this, it’s my secret!

What is your favourite song to perform live?

Fav songs to play live: Stay Alive & Kiss Goodbye.

What would be your dream tour to be a part of?

Touring the world with The Cure or Foofighters.

What are your current thoughts on the music industry?

We know the music market is no longer the same and I think it’s bad for good. The music industry has not been able to start the digital shift and the model remains very vague regarding the copyrights paid by streaming platforms. We must rethink the economic model of the whole system, all together, artists and professionals in the music industry.

As an artist you must surround yourself with people from the music industry who support you rather than waiting for someone to do it for you and that’s exactly what we do and we are fortunate enough to be well supported by our label The Animal Farm Music and their team.

What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?

We were touring Germany in the mid-eighties and there these 2 crazy girls we met in a Bar in Dortmund after one of our shows. They took us to a strange party and everyone was dressed like aliens and at the entrance, there were tall glasses with lots of different drugs in them and I remember the bass player and I took black pills without knowing what they were.

I don’t remember what happened after that, just flashes from time to time, and the same for the tour I only remember being on the car ferry and seeing the port of Dover again. The other two in the band told us after the tour that the 2 German girls wanted to get married in England with us and they were glued to us all the time. Eventually, they were turned back by customs officials at the French border for invalid passports.

What are your future plans?

We are working on new songs (I have another 30 songs in stock) and thinking of different ways to bring our music to our audience. I’m shooting the video clip for our song Stay Alive. I created all the sets and the story. I will direct and edit the clip for mid-June hopefully.

You can find our new album TEN on all the current digital platforms and the CD is for sale on our website as well as on our Bandcamp.
