A five-piece pop-punk band from London, Livonia have catchy melodies and lively riffs that are attracting a growing fanbase.
How would you describe your music?
We make an energetic and catchy form of British Pop Punk music. Imagine Don Broco crossed with Boston Manor, we’d be their offspring.
Tell us about the history of the project?
We all met in Soho London, where we all worked on Livonia street together. We wrote some songs and thought the name Livonia would be a nice temporary band name, a year or so later and we’re still called Livonia!! We had the pleasure of recording an EP over at Outhouse Studios in Reading, and have released our debut single Talking on all streaming platforms.
What are your influences/ musical heroes?
Big pop punk bands like Blink 182, MCR and Green day are definitely up there as heroes to us. But I think seeing great up and coming bands like Boston Manor, ROAM and Stand Atlantic burst onto the Pop Punk scene with their own unique styles really gives us something to aim for.
What inspires you?
A lot of stuff really, of course relationships, jobs, and trying to navigate life is present throughout our songs. We all know what it’s like to constantly be put down and what it takes to get back up again, I think we try and get that message across in our music and shows.
Do you write on the road? Or do you prefer to write in the studio?
We tend to write most of our music ourselves in our own time, and then try and combine them together. Nowadays all you need is a focusrite and a laptop and you can get your ideas down and begin making song demos. We are really capitalising on that and have already written eight of our own songs with a few more cooking as well.
What is your favourite song to perform live?
I’m not sure we have a favourite, but performing some of our more energetic songs that make you want to jump around and bang your head never get boring to play. I think a lot of that comes from us being fans in the audience, now trying to make songs that we know we would have enjoyed listening and moshing to!
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
Warped Tour is 100% the dream. The line up is always unreal and we know our music would slot right in perfectly. Imagine being paid to tour America and smash out shows each day, it doesn’t get much better than that!
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
The music industry is just getting so big. What it now takes for small unsigned bands to get noticed in such a saturated industry is becoming more and more unattainable. I think it requires so much more dedication, time and money to be pumped into the band in order to gain success than it did say 30 years ago. That being said, we have all already put so much into this band and can see something that we thought would be a bit of fun, a hobby if you like, turn into something that people are actually getting behind and wanting to see performed.
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
We’ve yet to do a proper tour yet, but as far as funny stories go we have one from only a few weeks ago… We were out for a few (a lot of) beers and Rob fell down the stairs.. he managed to walk home that night but turns out he’d fractured a bone in his foot! Anyway we had practice early that morning so the rest of us were relieved to go back to bed – apart from Chris who turned up wondering where everyone was! Turned out not to be that funny in the end because we had to cancel a show two days later…
What are your future plans?
Well, we are going play as many shows as we can! We have already seen the shows are getting bigger and better every time we play. We have our Debut EP Hate. Relate. Regenerate coming out on 13th March so hope more people will connect with our music after that as well.
