Based in Portsmouth, UK built on tragedy and the battle for mental health Solve the Nodus are a blend of rap, alt-rock and metal.
How would you describe your music?
We would describe our recorded music as raw, passionate, Alternative Rock with flares of Hard Rock and Metal. Live we are a bit heavier and would lean towards the hard rock genre. People like to jump about and have polite moshes live! However we have three different eps planned for 2020 where the genres will be different and will be… well, you’re going to have to follow us to find out!
Tell us about how the history of the project?
After several years of homelessness Daniel (Vocalist) found his happy ending, but it wasn’t to be! After a miscarriage his mental health deteriorated and he became homeless and alone. He spent the last of his money on a guitar he saw in a shop window and learnt a couple of cover songs and started busking, he then started writing original music to help him vent that’s how the name came about Solve The Nodus means Solve The Intricate Problem. He recorded two songs and sent them to Ollie Robinson of Armistice Records who turned them into what you hear, he posted the songs and asked on Facebook if anyone would be interested in forming a band and he found Ben (guitarist) Jordan (Bassist) Luke (Drummer) we met up and from day one have been practicing twice a week and gigging several times a week most weeks! We made If I Could with Ollie and release Demons which we self produced on Dec 13th! The rest is yet to come!
What are your influences/ musical heroes?
A big influence are our fans, mental health and homelessness. We don’t want anyone to feel alone and also that it’s okay to not feel okay YOU ARE NOT A BURDEN! Our musical heroes are Lower Than Atlantis, Enter Shikari, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Paramore, Papa Roach, Hacktivist, Rage Against The Machine and honestly we could go on! We love and appreciate most artists!
What inspires you?
The ability to help people, the ability to unite all people, the faces and dance moves of our fans and other bands fans when we play. People’s struggles, people’s willingness to open up. Life!
Do you write on the road? Or do you prefer to write in the studio?
We write where we can and when we can! We never stop even if it’s just to vent! Our favourite time to write is when one of us come into practice and is like boys listen to this riff or beat or lyric and we just add our own flare and have a jam from it! We freestyle a lot!
What is your favourite song to perform live?
Daniels favourite song to perform is Stay With Me as it’s dedicated to the people he has lost in his journey in life, currently you can only hear this live. Ben’s favourite song to perform is Demons which is out December 13th he loves it as it has so much energy. Jordan’s favourite to play is I Just Can’t Tied because the song gives him freedom to be able to play about and make it different each time and Lukes favourite song to play is If I Could because he gets to make a big noise and play the double kick!
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
To be honest our dream tour is headlining and supporting all over the world. We don’t mind as long we get to play!!
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
Lots exclusivity and lots of room for growth, we’re on the cusp of a new age which we hope to be a part of!
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
Dan jumping into the crowd and moshing with the fans and then finding out the bloke he was moshing most with is a politician.
What are your future plans?
We have three eps planned for 2020 and an album planned for 2021, gig wise we plan a European tour in the not so distant future! And we just want to play and have fun while following our cause!
