Chmcl Str8jckt are Working class, Vintage Industrial Rock, dark and sinister with heavy synth/guitar sounds, drawing inspiration from early industrial and metal scenes. Blending metal guitar and late 80’s/early 90’s Industrial sounds.

Tell us about the history of the band?

Mike, Scott and myself have been friends since high school when we met playing Dungeons and Dragons! Mike and I had an industrial rock band back then….it didn’t last long but it was a blast! Just like now, I programmed and played keys and Mike played guitar….I wasn’t lead vocalist back then.

We three were obsessed with D&D AND industrial music…Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, Puppy, FLA, etc. Scott and I stayed friends but I lost touch with Mike until about 3 years ago. I went to see his indie rock band play. We had a few drinks afterward and he proposed we “do it again!” (meaning play industrial rock together). I hadn’t seen Mike for decades or played keyboards either…so why the fuck not?? Except this time I am also writing lyrics (never did it before) and singing lead (never did it before). So, yeah… about 26 years after we last played together (and I played at all) we said “fuck it! let’s go!”

When the debut started doing well, we pulled in our old buddy Scott to add backing vocals and live keys/samples. Three childhood friends. I had been wanting a percussionist to round out the band and then I met Ian ranting on Facebook about how all of the local bands are boring and suck! I instantly liked him.

We talked and realized how similar our backgrounds were….we had even been at some industrial shows together and didn’t know it! Bam! We are complete.

How would you describe your music?

It is “Industrial Rock” if you want to simplify it. BUT, we are into a lot of different music, like rock, punk, metal, synth-pop, etc. So we happily blend all of the styles and it makes for an interesting set of songs!

What are your influences/ musical heroes?

There are so many!! The obvious ones are Ministry, KMFDM, Kiss etc. Less obvious would be Bob Marley, Nick Cave, The Pixies, Social Distortion, Mercyful Fate, Naked Raygun, Motorhead….we are all over the place.

What record are you currently listening to?

Volbeat’s “Seal The Deal and Let’s Boogie” and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds “Murder Ballads”.

What is your favourite song to perform live?

So far, “Meat Hook”…it’s just pure, raw energy.

What would be your dream tour to be a part of?

Either opening for Ministry or the Revolting Cocks.

What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?

Well…just a lot of happiness and reverie! A ton of booze and positivity!

What are you current thoughts on the music industry?

What music industry?

What advice would you give to someone starting their own band?

Make sure you have a steady job/career first! Don’t ever think you will make a living doing music in a society that most commonly (and unashamedly) asks, “How do I get your music for free?”… While sipping a $5 latte that they bought from a corporate giant.

What are your future plans?

Well, we’re releasing our second album WRTCHD THNGS August 16th on Cleopatra Records! It was produced by John Bechdel of Ministry (ex Killing Joke, ex Prong, ex Fear Factory). We are soooo excited for you to hear it! As I said earlier, it has a ton of styles all fused together and is an apocolytic thrill ride!
