Tell us about the history of the band?
Franz : SCHULTZ is a solo project born in 2002 in South of France. It became a duo with the female performer VDREY during several years and since 2018 a real band with the arrivals of GUITARFOX (Guitar and vocals) and Sandy Dynamite (Live dance performance and Vocals).
Guitarfox : Franz asked us to join him as a backing band for one gig at the Industrial Music Fest in Cannes (French Riviera) in 2017. It was meant to be a one shot deal, but it went well… So Sandy and I are still in the project today.
How would you describe your music?
Franz : We describe it as Industrial Metal but not only. Our music is a crossover of a lot of things from experimental to EBM, from industrial to Punk and a lot of other influences.
Guitarfox : Dark Electronics with metal guitars.
What are you influences/ musical heroes?
Franz : No real heroes, my hero is me.
Guitarfox : And he really means it!… In fact we have enough different influences and musical heroes to make it our own way. The goal of art in general is to develop a personality of its own. I don’t know if we succeed, but we’re working on it.
What record are you currently listening to?
Franz : I’m actually listening to my last music discovery, Shaârghot, a French band.
Guitarfox : It depends on my humour of the moment… Sometimes I feel angry and I will listen to Psalm 69 by Ministry, sometimes I feel joyful and it will be the White Album of the Beatles…
What is your favourite song to perform live?
Franz: “I hate you” of course, one of the first tracks wrote for this album but also one of the most representative of us I think.
Guiatrfox : No favourite song, they’re all good, I love them all!
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
Franz : Rammstein… But for their first album, a little less now…
Guitarfox : The problem is I don’t speak German!
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
Franz : Too many things to answer in the past formation, not enough touring with the new members yet to have something to say…
Guitarfox : Running thousands of miles from home for a gig and not to be paid, fed or even hosted… But we’re not that naïve anymore!
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
Franz : The music industry has changed since I started making music, not the same way of consumption, of listening… now music is more about the thinking behind the product than about art, and it’s a shame… but we could write about it during long and long hours…
Guitarfox : The real shame is that today the success of any artwork informs more about the communication budget than about real talent… Otherwise there would not be so many shits!
What advice would you give to someone starting their own band?
Franz : Believe in yourself…..
Guitarfox : Okay man!… More seriously, this is a dangerous and ungrateful job, and an extreme lifestyle. Not for whimpers. So be prepared!
What are your future plans?
Franz : Playing, playing , and playing everywhere as possible… Meeting new people, sharing stages… Life!
Guitarfox : First of all, convincing you to listen and buy this album, and come to our gigs!
