Shaheena gave us this interview – many thanks
How would you describe your music?
Lots of good riffs and melodies with themes of obsession, loss, and isolation – a mercury filled mirror telescope into our world.
Tell us about how the history of the project?
Will and I have been collaborating since our days in the rock band Rachel Stamp and it’s been a natural songwriting development ever since.
What are you influences/ musical heroes?
I like early The Cure, DM, Joy Division, The Chameleons, Siouxsie, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Nirvana, Hole, Monster Magnet, Jimmy Eat World, Lisa Gerard, Chrissy Amphlett, PJ Harvey, Kim Deal, Kim Gordon, Tina Weymouth…
What inspires you?
I’m personally inspired by many things: books, films, music, theatre, art, planet earth, animal behaviour, human behaviour, psychology, philosophy, history, anthropology, war.
Do you write on the road? or do you prefer to write in the studio?
Personally I like writing at home with my bass or when we rehearse in a studio. I also get ideas in my head when I’m walking around London and record them on my phone to try out later.
What is your favourite song to perform live?
At the moment I’m really enjoying playing Bones.
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
Touring with Depeche Mode would be pretty cool.
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
I’d like to see more risks being taken and more passion for music rather than profits.
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
What happens on tour stays on tour.
What are your future plans?
Keep writing songs, playing gigs and making videos.
Learn as much as I can do I can understand and analyse our world better.
Help save rhinos and elephants from extinction, stop the dog meat trade, stop whaling and dolphin slaughter, stop live exports, stop all animal testing, stop trophy hunting, save the moon bears, save the pangolins, save the orangutans, get humans to read more books, get humans to channel their anxiety, anger, sadness into creativity and activism to protect our world, get humans to stop wearing fur and being cruel to animals and each other.
I’d also like to stop illegal logging and fishing, and help move the world faster towards clean energy to protect the oceans and the air.
