How would you describe your music?

To An End are a mix of heavy riffs and big melodies that is somewhere between metal and hard rock, so ‘alternative metal’ might cover the genre tag. Each member has pretty diverse musical tastes and the different elements all shine through in the songs. If you like heavy music with big hooks, you’ll dig To An End.

Tell us about how the history of the project?

Myself (Matt – Guitarist) and Al (vocals) wrote the songs which was really a studio passion project at the time. After recording the full length album, we realised pretty quickly that we need to get a band together and play as much as possible! So the process was a bit backwards to most bands who will jam, gig then record. The album came first for us.

What are you influences/ musical heroes?

Our individual music tastes range from Journey, Pantera, Glassjaw, Faith No More, Tool, Slayer, Meshuggah to 80’s rock to death/black metal haha. As a band, we feel we’ve been influenced by heavy music with melody so there are elements of Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Stone Sour, Sevendust and Disturbed. Personally, I’ve always gravitated towards song writers and great riffs so my heros are Metallica, Pantera, Lamb of God, Alice In Chains, Tool. Too many to mention though!

What inspires you?

I think my biggest inspiration is the satisfaction of being creative. Writing and performing music is such a great outlet to express yourself. To have a break from real life and write some music that you then get to play with amazing musicians on stage and in front of an audience, it can’t really be replicated.

Do you write on the road? or do you prefer to write in the studio?

At this stage of the band we still have the luxury of just writing in our spare time and doing demos at home. Recording technology is so good now that home recording is easy and working on material can be done anywhere.

What is your favourite song to perform live?

Our new single ‘Wasteland’ is a great song to play. It really translates live well and the audience seems to enjoy just as much as we do!

What would be your dream tour to be a part of?

I think any shows with Metallica would be a dream tour. Absolute legends of the genre and it doesn’t get much bigger than them!

What are you current thoughts on the music industry?

I think technology has made it easier for bands and artists to record and get their name out there on many different platforms. The challenge then is to try and get yourself heard. I also think there needs to be a bit of a course correction in relation to artist support. It’s just a matter of adjusting to the changes, and hopefully it all leads to artists being able to thrive to continue delivering great music.

What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?

We haven’t had any weird experiences yet but we hope to continue to play as far and wide as possible to make it happen haha

What are your future plans?

We are releasing our debut album later this year and will be looking forward to playing consistently throughout the end of 2018 through 2019. The plan then is for a follow up album and of course, more gigs! Check out our music on all streaming platforms and YouTube and be sure to check out our Facebook page for updates. Cheers
