Cortex Complex consist of various humanoids from the year 2177 who travelled through time in 2015 to warn the world of an imminent machine apocalypse.

How would you describe your music?

Progressive Rock/Metal is probably the closest genre!

Tell us about how the history of the band?

I personally had the idea for Sci-Fi virtual band in mind for many years before we started making the first, instrumental, album, titled “The Final Great Awakening,” with Andreas (Drummer) in 2015 as part of a university project. Later on, Andreas moved out of the country and even though he remained as a session drummer, Cortex Complex was now my own solo project. I hired Mike and Valentina for the vocals and put out “Memoirs of an Apocalypse” which is our latest album!

What are you influences/ musical heroes?

Well, I started out playing Thrash Metal, so all the classic Metal bands left an influence on me. But mostly I’ve been influenced by Progressive Metal bands such as Dream Theater and Opeth, guitar virtuosos such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani as well as videogame composers such as Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series).

What inspires you?

Life and the current state of the world. I like to use the Sci-Fi world of Cortex Complex to talk about my views about the current state of the world in an entertaining way.

Do you write on the road? or do you prefer to write in the studio?

As we never went on tour yet, it’s the studio!

What is your favourite song to perform live?

We are currently just a studio band but it would probably be “Code Red” as that one was the most fun to record.

What would be your dream tour to be a part of?

Probably supporting Dream Theater!

What are you current thoughts on the music industry?

It’s so hard to make it these days. Music piracy has really damaged the small and new artists more than anything. You need to invest extremely more money and time to make it these days than you did 10 years ago.

What are your future plans?

I am currently writing the third album! It’s still at a very early stage but hopefully it will be released in 2019! Before that though, we have exciting new videos in the works for songs out of “Memoirs of an Apocalypse!”
