Xander & The Keys are an Indie-Rock
September 2015 seen the band release their 2nd studio single ‘Lean on’ . The single was released on 4th September LIVE on the Main stage at Bedem Festival, Montenegro
How would you describe your music?
Super energetic. We always seem to end each track on this mad crescendo. Its fun though. Sometimes a little dark.
Tell us about the history of the band?
The band formed in 2013 after I (Xander) started playing acoustic guitar all over bournemouth. I met a guy called Luke Adams who ended up being our manager. He hooked me up with a rummer and we cruised all over the south playing as a duo. It was all great except we got to the point where we wanted a bigger sound so we got a bass player involved and I switched to electric.
What are you influences/ musical heroes?
Well there are four of us in the band so its everything from Hendrix to melodic soft core Scandinavian death metal. Haha. But personally my favourite band (Xander) is Kings of Leon.
What inspires you?
Bands that have tried so hard and made it like Catfish they prove it can be done with hard work and determination. Seriously its just a crazy good feeling to play a show to hundreds or thousands of people and have them scream the lyrics you wrote back at you.
Do you write on the road? or do you prefer to write in the studio?
I (Xander) write everywhere really. Its cheesy but sometimes the best tracks come from just humming a tune in the shower. Dan our guitarist sends me riff ideas on WhatsApp. Thats pretty fun.
What is your favourite song to perform live?
Right now? Faux embrace, our up coming single, there is so much going on with this song! Its funny when you play a song 100 times it kinda becomes your worst song. But if a huge crowd of people have come to see you and maybe that particular tune then you have to just play it like you mean it.
What would be your dream tour to be a part of?
We would love to tour Japan, USA…
What are you current thoughts on the music industry?
The UK industry is still strong and there is a strong global market out there its just hard to open the right doors but we feel we are in the right places with the right people. From a musicians point of view the scenes get stale so you gotta try new things to keep the enthusiasm going. Or get out of dodge.
What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour?
One time on tour in Croatia we pulled over in the mini bus for a toilet break, this time we were with the lead singer of Croatian band Elemental who are quiet a big name over there and our ex drummer Marko Owen had been gone for sometime maybe 15 odd minuets. We started to worry where he was, moments later he comes around the corner with the largest Watermelon any of us had seen it must have seen you must see it! This watermelon stayed on tour with us for the remainder of the tour and you can see the weirdest pictures on our facebook page and we mean there are some weird ones!! www.facebook.com/xanderandthekeys
What are your future plans?
We have 3 singles ready for release going into 2017 and a UK tour planned for February as well as looking to return on tour to Europe for the 4th time. Cant Bloody wait
