Tell us about the history of the band?

Since I am primarily a solo artist, the band only got together about 6 months ago to record the new album. I met Neil Campisano (drummer) at one of my solo shows and he was super nice and enthusiastic about wanting to play with me. When I heard his stuff I was over the moon excited for him to join our tribe! The bassist, Zack Proteau, is well known around town and was referred to me by a friend. When the 3 of us finally got in a room to rehearse, it was such a relief that it clicked. I have never been this comfortable. Brett Vaughn Rechtfertig and I played a song-writers in the round style gig together and his guitar skills won me over big time.

How would you describe your music?

Blues/Jazz/ Americana

What are your influences/ musical heroes?

Allen Toussaint, Nina Simone, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo

What record are you currently listening to?

I’m listening to Gary Clark Jr.’s album “Blak and Blu”

What is your favourite song to perform live?

I “Come Back” has been really fun due to the variety of rhythm and passion I get to hurl up vocally.

What would be your dream tour to be a part of?

I would love to be on tour with Bonnie Raitt as her support act.

What is the funniest/weirdest experience you have had on tour or playing live?

There are so many stories that I think I may write a book about this. Once I was at an outdoor gig and they forgot to turn off their automatic sprinklers, so as I was sitting at my keyboard singing, there came the waterworks! It was the only time I stopped in the middle of a song in my life. I had to rescue my gear!

What are your current thoughts on the music industry?

I think it is a time of transition and they are making strides to keep up with technology.

What advice would you give to someone starting their own band?

Be nice, show up on time, and do your homework. Make sure they get paid before you do.

What are your future plans?

To go all kinds of global with this album while I write the next one. I want to play cities and countries I have never been to, and hug every single new fan. My fans are rad. http://www.katieknipp.com/
