A new track from Aberration Nexus - oh hell yes...
We featured Aberration Nexus a while back ,taking on board the ideas of music to suit the end of the world and crafting tracks of face melting heaviness. I said at the time that I was looking forward to hearing how the music came together – so when I was given the chance to hear a new track, I couldn’t wait!
Hammering drums, insane guitar work and pummelling bass lines combined with synth effects once again fill the speakers as this track gets going, creating a sense not of the end of the world, but the end of everything! Raw and aggressive from the outset, this track seems almost heavier than the ones before, harking at the likes of Death and Black metal whilst still keeping that melody running through things, dragging you along by your eyeballs and forcing you to listen whether you want to or not. This is music which is going to scare the crap out of a lot of people, but the insane drum work and guitar combination holds an almost hypnotic quality, crafting something which you can’t help but be absorbed by, wanting to stick with it and hear more. Moving through different sections, what you’ve got here is a track which demonstrates a clear understanding of music, a clear dedication to the cause and a slight edge of insanity – but I love it!
Everytime I hear the stuff from Aberration Nexus I almost hope that the world’s going to end, just so I can hear this as I see the flames approaching me. The sound here is that which you hear in your nightmares, the sort of thing which gets banned for fear of inciting mass slaughter and violence, yet it’s so well put together that you can’t help but admire it at the same time! In short – keep them coming…..and check those Mayan calendar dates!

Aberration Nexus
Chris Meyer recently dropped us a message letting us know about a solo project he is working on at the moment called Aberration Nexus. Describing the work as ‘extreme orchestral black death metal’ and featuring just Chris on all instruments, programming and vocals, this promises to be something interesting in the very least. Going on to say that it’s ‘Armageddon inspired and themed’, this is going to either be dark and heavy, or dark and heavy…..it’s that simple.
Currently featuring demo tracks on the FB page, Chris’s singular vision of malignant, sonic darkness becomes apparent as soon as Armageddon Battleplan (rhythm guitar and bass demo) kicks into being, this is suggesting one key thing – heavy. Roving guitar lines are underpinned by hammering drums that the Berzerker would be proud of, the whole mix at first sounding absolutely insane but soon becoming something that you realise is a reflection of its aim – this is Armageddon in musical form! The accompanying orchestral mix is dark and haunting enough to score a horror movie, reflecting the dark and ominous outlook coming through everything.
The Apocalypse Code is another reflection of this outlook, but this is one I need to hear the final version of. Dark and distorted guitars are underpinned by rolling drums, the whole mix taking the form of a classic black metal track, instantly getting you moving along and wanting to hear more, your hands reaching for that volume up button time and time again until there’s no volume left, just hammering noise roaring at you through the speakers – and it’s awesome! Add in the matching orchestral mix and this is a track which is going to be mind blowing, this is sheer power.
Finishing with Entropy, one thing has become clear to me, this is a project which people need to be made aware of! The music isn’t simply a mish mash of loud noises or overdrive pedal enhanced guitars, this is well thought out and carefully crafted music which is designed to reflect a mental image. If you’ve got any doubts, imagine what Armageddon would look like, then close your eyes and listen to what’s going on here – I don’t know about you lot but it matched up for me! At 9 minutes long this isn’t a track for the faint hearted, but sit it out and you’ll realise just how much of a genius this bloke is.
I don’t know what to say after this, other than on the 21st of December this year I plan to have this album on repeat just incase – as if there’s a massive meteor coming towards us and the horizon is going to light up with fires and destruction as the inevitable icy grip of death advances upon me, I can’t think of a better sound track. So there’s your deadline Chris, I need this music here and ready to go by then please…..otherwise if it happens on the 21st of December, I’m going to come back and haunt you for the rest of your days! Seriously though, this promises to be one of the most cleverly thought out albums you’re going to hear this year, so get on it!
